Processed before they become edible, olives are usually pickled and brine before consumed. In terms of oil, it is healthier and has a more delicate flavor.

Archaeological evidence suggests that olives were grown in Crete since 2,500 B.C. In ancient Greece, the first eye shadow was formulated by mixing olive oil and coal. Ancient Roman women used to also apply the oil to their skin and hair as sun protection.
